Mayor Belen Fernandez and Japan’s Iwata City Mayor Kusachi Hiroaki signed last August 21 a renewed sister-city agreement reinforcing the two cities’ commitment to explore new avenues of partnership and future initiatives.
The signing capped the one-day official visit of Mayor Hiraoki in Dagupan where he was warmly welcomed by Mayor Fernandez, Vice Mayor Dean Bryan Kua and other local dignitaries.
Hiraoki discussed with Fernandez various areas of concern, which focused on education, cultural exchange, economic development, and disaster management.
For her part, Mayor Fernandez expressed her gratitude to the visiting delegation and stressed her commitment to furthering the strong bond between the two cities, adding “we can learn a lot from Japan and it’s time to strengthen our friendship with them which was started by then Dagupan City Cipriano Manaois”.
She likewise expressed hopes to continue working beyond the cultural and symbolic relationship by promoting a more modern partnership, one where both cities can explore new opportunities that will benefit the communities they serve.
